First Underwater Shot

This was the first try at underwater photography, not very exciting. I was walking out to get into deep enough water to begin snorkeling and noticed a small silver fish, I wasn't aware there were so many around me. I was in about 12" of water, the fish were about 4" long. LYLE

Humuhumunukunukuapua"a

That really is it's name. It is the Hawaii state fish. One of the prettiest ones there. We also saw these in Samoa quite often. The name basically means "a fish with a pretty tail and a face like a pig", loosly translated. Very shy. LYLE

Soup on the Go

This turtle was bout 15" across, just a little one and he (she) did not like me being so close. It tried everything to stay away from me so I didn't pursue it very much. I would have liked a better photo but I just didn't want to harass it. LYLE

Going to School

These guys were about the size of one of my hands and there were hundreds of them. They used to greet us in Samoa from time to time so it was fun to see them in Hawaii also. LYLE

Black Striped Fish

I have no idea what kind of fish it is but there were lots of them. LYLE

God was looking out for them no-one was hurt Linda's other brother lives a little piece down the road and his house was damaged also. I didn't take pictures there, the roof was damaged it shifted on its foundation and a lot of other damage. Bruce

The Old Home Place

I found this old home (whos I don't know) by taking a different route than I usually go. The trees were harvested a few months ago and they didn't destroy the old house or Chevy. This is a 3 shot HDR in Photoshop. f 13 ISO 500 Bruce

1947 Fleetline

I thought you might like a closer look at this. I didn't want to trespass so I stayed on the right-Of-way. The pipe has me puzzled, it adds interest to the scene but how did it get there. Was it on the ground and picked up by the tree when it grew? f13 1/160sec ISO500 135mm Bruce

Bamboo Thicket

This stand of bamboo was in the Waimea Valley. I used my 10-24 wide angle lens and braced against the nearest stalk of bamboo to shoot the HDR. I think palm trees and bamboo are just so cool. LYLE

Standing Guard

This ship is standing near the Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor. I don't know her name but she is certainly majestic. I know you will appreciate her. LYLE

Soups Up

Oh, wait a minute, we can't cook these, in fact we can't even touch them, they are protected. What a beautiful creature. Shot with my new Cannon D10. LYLE

Detail of the USS Arizona

This close-up is part of the USS Arizona in Pearl Harbor. It deserves all the respect I can offer it. It really felt sacred as I was there. LYLE

Blue Hawaii

This is the same scene as the sunset, just taken in the afternoon. It is from the back yard of the property that we are staying at. I think I could live here. This is an HDR that was tonemapped in enhancer natural. I did adjust it to get some of the blue out of it. LYLE

Bird of Paradise

I tend not to shoot either birds or flowers, but this is a double capture, both a bird and a flower at the same time. I was at the Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor when this Bird of Paradise caught my eye. I shot it in HDR but could not get it to line up because the wind was blowing and I was shooting handheld. I tone mapped all 5 in Photomatix using the align elements feature and it actually did it! This was shot with the 18-105 at 22mm. Had a bit of a problem getting it to have a plain background without the rest of the garden, I was afraid the guards would see me standing in the garden, but I got away with it. LYLE

Sunset at Haleiwa

This is what we were viewing Friday evening from the town where Darla lives. This was taken from the back yard of the beach house where we are staying. It is a five shot HDRA at +.7 EV with the 18-105 at 18mm and f8. LYLE
