The Red Leaves of Fall

This shot was taken while I was in Big Cottonwood Canyon. The leaves were beautiful but fall had not progressed too far at the time. I think I will go back up this weekend to see how they are doing. I had to crop this one to get the balance I wanted. It was shot in aperture mode after a frustrating foray into manual mode. LYLE

Leaves in a Waterfall

I used a tri-colored grey card to set the white balance for this shot and then changed it to 'Shade' in photoshop. Other than that I made no changes. it was shot at F/6.3, 1/20th sec., ISO 1600 at 135mm with the 18-135 lens. I shot this in Aperture Priority but am playing with Manual to see if I can get better color rendition. Incidently this photo was staged with the leaves. A friend set it up and was shooting from the other side of the river. LYLE

Up A Tree

As I was walking around Silver Lake I noticed that there was something moving the bushes a bunch, as I looked closer this little guy was gathering berries as fast as he could. It was quite hard to capture him but after about 12 shots I thought maybe I had one. I actually got two that I could use. This was shot at F/4.9, ISO 140, shutter 1/125 and focal length 185 with the 70-300 lens. Wow, a single capture! LYLE

Fall is in the Air

After looking at this photo at work where my monitor is calibrated I realized how far off my monitor is at home after I had it worked on. I need to go calibrate it also. LYLE

This is Silver Lake where I shot the photo that you didn't like in the rain. I was up there before daylight and shot this 5 shot HDR just after sunrise. The fall leaves were just turning and the light was perfect. I used a polarizing filter so I could capture the moss and rocks on the bottom of the lake and blue up the sky. LYLE

Fall for a Panorama

Wow, I can't believe another set of single shots! No HDR in this one. The next few shots were made as Judi and I were on the trail to Lake Blanch along with Libby and Sam, Brads family. I took 4 photos but didn't like the results with the fourth one attached so I only used three of the shots. I hand held them even though I had my tripod with me. This was on the way out and I was too tired to set up the tripod again. I did have to clone stamp out some black corners and enhanced the colors just a bit in CS4 to get it the way I remembered seeing it. LYLE

Aspen in Fall

I cropped this single shot just to get the leaves where I wanted them in the photo. Other than that I did not make any adjustments to this photo. I really liked the way the sun was highlighting these leaves much like the ones in the next photo also.  LYLE

Proof: Fall is Here

This beautiful little bouquet was just begging me to take its picture, so I obliged it. A single capture with no adjustments of any kind, what you see is what I shot. I opened up the aperture so I could control the depth of field and center weighted it to focus on the colored leaves without a lot of distraction from the background. LYLE

Color on the Trail

This 5 capture HDR along the trail to Lake Blanch was really showing off all of its glory. What a nice day it was, 90 F in the valley and nice and cool on the trail. These colors don't last long so I was happy to get them. LYLE

Tree of Flame

I think you have seen this bridge previously only it was from below. I really liked the tree in all of its blazing glory behind the bench. This series had several single shot captures that I do ever so rarely.  LYLE

Getting Caught trying to Sneak One

I thought this was a nice scene so I tried to sneak a shot of this couple in Murray Park. After just a couple of shots they caught me. They were very nice about it so we just turned it into a full photo shoot. I am not very good at shooting people but about 10 shots came out pretty good. My mentor at work gave me some tips on how to crop a couple of them and clean up another and they really came out nice. LYLE

Ceiling Lights

These lights are hanging in a restaurant in Herriman where I was shooting Soda Row. I thought they were kind of cool so I shot this HDR of them. I tried to shoot high so I wouldn't have to get releases from the people sitting around eating. LYLE

A Radical Version of Soda Row

Brent sent me on location to get a photo of the city center where he lives. It is a 15 shot HDR panorama. I took three positions of five captures to create the final photo. It was about 7:30 when I took them so it was just getting dark, the sun was just barely shining on the building face. I want to go back and shoot one even later to get a darker sky but it was getting too late for our wives to eat so I had to quit.

Up a Tree

We agreed that we would not post photos of our families, this is a 5 shot HDR self portrait, except that Judi pulled the trigger after I set up the camera and scene. Sorry, but I thought you might enjoy it. LYLE

On Duty

Chief Wasatch presides over the entry to Murray Park in Salt Lake City, UT. It was carved out of a single, huge Cottonwood tree. This is a 5 shot HDR. LYLE

Only When Necessary

Oh say, does that star spangled banner still wave over the land of the free and the home of the brave? LYLE

Assembly Building Spires

I was out on Temple Square today enjoying the sunshine and just happened to have my camera in my hand. I took this photo as part of a HDR set but the wind was moving the leaves too much so I used the +1 shot and cropped it a whole bunch to get this image. I shot it at f/8, ISO 200, 1/2000 sec shutter at 70 mm. It looked so much better in B&W that I put it there and messed with the levels till I liked it. LYLE

The Cecret is Out!

This view of Cecret Lake is another 5 shot HDR and heavly tonemapped and saturated. Sometimes I like these while on other shots I am not too sure about them. I liked this one enough to post it. LYLE
