Biblical Transportation
I was on a county road going to work on a compressor on Christmas day and couldn't pass this photo-op up. I came up with some different names but being shot on Christmas day I decided on this one. I think the owner of this little fellow could use a lesson from the Bible and tie his ass to a tree if he can't keep it in a fence. It was misting rain so I shot out my truck window not wanting to get my gear wet. I had it on AP but I didn't write down the exposure. Bruce

Care for a Cold One?
This is the same waterfall, just pulled back a bit to shoot it. I haven't messed with it much but to put the vignette on just to make it look a bit colder, not that it needed to look any colder than it was. LYLE
Icy Falls
Went up on the trail to Lake Blanch where we went when you were here, things are a bit different this time of the year. I shot this at 1/6 sec, ISO 400, f25, 300 mm in shutter priority. It took several tries to get the water smoothed out and not over expose the shot. Sure got my toes cold doing it. LYLE

Hilltop View of East Texas
I was working on a hilltop and thought the view was beautiful so I tried to capture it with My camera before I left. You can see the colors of fall but it doesn't show the rolling hills. This is a 3 exposure panorama ISO 250 1/2500 sec f 6.3 28mm high noon Bruce

The Wave
I was just playing with the photos that I took while in Hawaii last year, (day dreaming about going again someday) and decided if I could make one of them look like I remembered it. I shot this with my Cannon waterproof camera, I didn't want to get my good camera wet. After just a bit of work it began to look the way I wanted. Enjoy...LYLE

East Texas Ranch
I have wanted to shoot this for a longtime I first never took the time to stop when I'm driving by. This is a 3. shot panorama I enhanced the colony little things are pretty dry. I didn't writedown my camera settings but I used AE 200 ISO Bruce
Bale Ejector
Nothing runs like a deere. Or is that Nothing runs, like a deere? Actually I like John Deere equipment and hope you enjoy this shot of an old baler. LYLE

Case Tractor
I was on a job site filming (??) the placement of some footings for a training film. Sitting next to the site was some old rusty farm equipment, I knew you would enjoy seeing it. I have a couple other shots that I will post in a day or so. LYLE

Monster Machine
I was driving by and trees had the view blocked until this opening so I stopped and shot out of the window If you look at the right you can see a track hoe and bulldozer, they look like toys next to this dragline. This is a 3 shot HDR, AP, f8, 35 mm, I'm not real happy with the quality there was too much haze in the air but doubt I will get another chance to shot this one this close. Bruce

Standing Sentinel
This tree seems to be trying to protect unwary persons from falling over the edge of this cliff. If you can zoom in enough you can see many of the features of Canyonlands National Park in Southern Utah. I really liked the clouds and contrails in the sky. LYLE
Arch to Arch
This is a view of Delicate Arch through a Pinion Pine tree that had a very similar shape. The stone arch was a long ways away so I had to use my big lens to even get it close for most of my shots. There were also about 50 people standing under it so I had to Photoshop them out. There was a very deep canyon between me and the arch from this side, maybe 300 feet deep or so. Access from this direction is not possible but the view is good. Lots of climbing up slopes and scrambling over slick rock, all in all a good time. LYLE

Silhouette of a Tree
This light painted tree is at Dead Horse Point. I shot it at f4, ISO 400, for 30 sec with the 10-24 lens and no filter. I am amazed at how far the Earth turns in just 30 sec as seen in the streaks left by the stars. I used a Ryobi flashlight to paint the tree and ran it up and down the tree about 3 times. LYLE

Big Dipper at Dead Horse Point
On every trip we try a little light painting when it gets dark. I love the Big Dipper and always include at lease one photo of it. This tree was dead but still standing, on the desert not too much is there to cause the dead trees to rot (no water) so they stand long after they die. I hit this one with a beam of light through my fingers to better direct the light just to the tree. I was concerned about the noise in the sky but I think much of it is actually the multitude of stars that are seen in the area. There was still a lot of light from the setting sun and a ranger station to the north. Manual mode shutter speed 30 sec. ISO 400, f4, 10-24 wide angle at 10mm, and was shooting without any filter, not even a UV. LYLE

View thru Mesa Arch
A couple of friends and I go on a photo safari every fall, this year we chose Canyonlands National Park in Southern Utah. This arch is located there and is quite famous. It is actually quite a small one at only about 25 feet wide but due to the view through it it is very photographed. We were there about 2:00 in the afternoon so the light was not the best but it was all I had to work with. This is a 5 shot HDR with my 18-105 lens at 18mm without any filter. Shutter speeds were from 1/200 to 1/13 sec. ISO 100 and f16. LYLE

Bradford Pear Tree
Linda and I planted this 2 years ago it has pretty blooms in the spring and bright fall colors. It doesn't feel like fall yet the highs are around 90° and lows around 60° I guess the leafs are turning because it is so dry. I grabbed my camera put it on manual and set the white balance and took 3 shot brackets but the wind was. blowing and I couldn't make them HDR's I tried. I setup my tripod and moved all around the tree shooting these are my favorites. f9 1/160 ISO200 Macro Bruce

Reeds
I am without my camera right now, Ann needed it to shoot a couple of families so she borrowed it. I then borrowed Brad's D40 just so I could still take a shot once in a while. This is one of them. I used my 10-24 wide angle lens with a Singh-ray filter on it. The filter was a door prize that I won from Adam Barker Photography while I was at one of his workshops. It is a 77mm LB color combo polarizer. I still have much to learn to figure it out, but it sure enriched this scene. I will get my D200 back later this week, then I hope to do more with it. I set this shot at ISO 200, f25, 14mm, aperture priority, 1/5 sec shutter. It was also shot in JPEG. The water was quite rough from the wind so that is why I wanted to use a bit slower shutter speed so I set the aperture as small as I could to smooth the water. The filter also gives a -2f. LYLE

The Red Chair
This is a 5 shot HDR of the parlor in the Inn on the Hill here in SLC, UT. After tonemapping in Photomatix I used Photoscape to put a watercolor filter on it and a #2 vignette. I printed it out at 8x12 and really like the way it looks. LYLE

Brighter Bouquet
I selected each bud individually and feathered its edges and used levels to lighten them to get rid of the 'bronze' look to them. I think it is much better. Thanks for the discussion about it so I could make it better. LYLE

Bouquet
This arrangement of flowers sits in the lobby of the Inn on the Hill in SLC, UT. I shot it with the same settings as the next photo. I used Photoshop to lighten the edges with the marquee tool, selections / modify to feather the edges 200 units and then inverse the selection. I then used the levels tool to lighten it with the sliders. LYLE

A Pretty Figure
This was shot in a bed and breakfast in Salt Lake City. It sits on the newel post of the stairway in the main lobby. It needed to have the background seperated from the figure and this background from onOne really seemed to do it. It is a five shot HDR set at -.7EV, 160 ISO, 8 Aperture with a 10-24 wide angle lens. Barn and Combine
I "discovered" this photo in one of my files. The scene is in Northern Idaho and was taken on our way to see Damon and Jess in Spokane. I used that Nikon D3s to shoot it as a HDR. I also used that onOne program to get the background look. LYLE

From The Top of Sundance
It is 105 degrees today so I wanted to stay inside and play with some older images. I wasn't planning on posting this but I really like the way it turned out. All I did was touchup some spots and convert it to Black and White with a custom color tint and play with the sliders to give it some more contrast. Bruce

I was crossing Lake Murvual yesterday and decided to shoot it. This is the Northwest end 4 shot panorama. How would you like to ski on this lake? Bruce

Brigham's Mirror
I took a tour of the Lion House in Salt Lake City, it was the residence of Brigham Young. I didn't have my tripod so had to shoot it hand held. It actually came out pretty cool after tonemapping. I like the way I can see outside through the window reflected in the mirror. There is a little noise but somehow it doesn't bother me. LYLE
Barn Cat
I caught this cat by this old barn but nearly ruined my camera taking it. I had my 10-24 wide angle lens on and switched it to the 18-105 zoom lens. When I did that a little breeze blew dust inside the camera, there were about 50 little specks that had to be clone stamped out to save the photo. LYLE

Speed Boat
I found a new program (read that as in bought) and was playing with certain filters that it comes with. This one was kinda fun for the right setting. Other than that the photo is not especially compelling, I just like the filter in this instance. LYLE

ITALY
I decided to combine photos I took in 1972 I used Elements 8 to make the collage. Starting at the top left is the entrance to the Galleria Toledo in Naples, next the Dome is Il Dumo in Florence, then the Castle Nuovo in Naples, then Michelangelo's tumb it is in Il Duomo in Florence and last is his statue of David also in Florence. Blue Barn
You may wonder about the title for this photo. It is because Ann had borrowed my camera and I didn't think about the white balance before shooting. It was quite blue because she had been shooting indoors and had it set for some interior type of lighting, it didn't work too well outdoors. I just couldn't bring it back enough to get the blue out of the wood grain so I turned it black and white. LYLE

The Thin Building
This is a very thin building. It is here in SLC. I think after the belt tightening that the banks have had to do they will all look like this. Actually it is just a front to impress investors. The building extends back at a 45d angle and I just got into the right position to make it look strange. LYLE
