The Light Beyond

This is a 30 second exposure through the flowering pear tree in our front yard. I shot it at about 11:00 PM last night. I set the camera at ISO 200, f/16, in shutter priority. The light beyond is the street light across the street in front of our neighbors house. LYLE

Magic Sky

I really love the magic sky that occurs in the early hours. This is looking from our front porch on Christmas morning. I used 4 of the 5 shots to fuse this HDR together. I shot it about 7:00 AM. LYLE

Rustic Old Barn

I saw the barn a while back but was too busy to stop and shot it. I got my chance and here it is, I liked it in color but improved it with B&W.   640 ISO  f6.3  1/125sec  31mm  Bruce

Twisted Trees

Sorry that I have been inactive lately, not busy just not shooting much. I was just looking at some photos that I shot some time ago and this one stood out. I never liked it in color but was intrigued by it in B&W so here it is. LYLE

Haunted Road

I shot this the same day as the last post but thought it looked out of focus. I decided to play with it and found out the Spanish moss was burned out so on the lightest exposure I burned it in then converted them all to PSD's and made an HDR,  f22 400ISO Manual 28mm

Out in the Cold

Remember that post entitled "Nothing but the truth"? Same tree, just shot today, that is what Mother Nature handed us overnight. But that is expected this time of year here in Utah. BRRR! LYLE

The River at Big Pines Down-Stream

I was starding on the dock at Big Pines and made this exposure, this is a 3 eoposure HDR with just a little work in Photo Shop. f25 400ISO

The River at Big Pines up-stream

This is the river up stream of Big Pines Lodge. Linda and I went thereto eat and I didn't carry my camera so I had to comeback to shoot these. This one is a single exposure with just a few adjustments in camera raw.  1/60sec f20 400ISO 35mm

FALL, HA!

I look at the calender and it shows me it is fall almost winter. I go outside and it feels like summer and looks like summer.

Bruce

The Swamp at Cado Lake

I went for a drive today and took a few photos I thought the fall colors might show up a little better than they did they have just started turning. This is 3 photos wide over lapping quite a bit and cropped, f22 .3sec  manual 400iso 28mm

SLC in a Window

While walking back to work at noon I happened to notice this reflection in the window of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. All I had with me was my iPad so I used it and took this photo. I opened it in Photoshop and cropped out unwanted stuff and added a dark vignette. Not too bad for an iPad. LYLE

Nothing but the truth

Did I photoshop it? We may never know the truth, but this is in our back yard. It is a 5 shot HDR so I admit to using Photomatix on it. I do have to say that Photoshop CS6 is on my computer and I may have had it open when I was processing this photo. LYLE

Flaming Colors

Went into a really awesome slot canyon over the weekend. It was in a place quite close to home but I had never heard of before. The fall colors were in full bloom. I shot this in manual mode so I could shoot into the sun and still expose the canyon walls. I had left my tripod in the car just because I didn't want to carry it up the canyon so this is a single shot. LYLE

In Flight

This is another shot of that owl we saw in Williams, AZ. They had placed a small piece of food on another post to get it to fly. It was pretty exciting to have it fly so close to us. LYLE

Pathway to the flaming tree

The fall colors are quite nice up in the mountains, not started down here yet. This is a 5 shot HDR which really helps get the colors bright. LYLE

Horned Owl

This wonderful owl was in an aviary and was performing a flying demo. It was sitting on it's handlers arm when I shot this. I was standing about 3 feet from it. It didn't like having its picture taken so it was scowling at me. I used my 70-300 lens at f/5.6, 1/4000 sec, ISO 3200, in manual mode. It was in full shade and the bird was fairly dark so that is why I shot it that way. LYLE

Big Dipper over the Canyon Wall

This was shot at about 10:00 PM in almost entire dark. I set the time for 24 sec, ISO 5000, f/2, and 24 mm with a 24-120 lens. The light was coming from a bus that passed that lit up the handrail and trees. The canyon wall was lit from light trespass from the village that was to my right. The stars seemed to be right in my lap. So beautiful even the photos don't do it justice. LYLE

Lower Yellowstone Falls

This is a shot of the Lower Falls on Yellowstone River. To give you a feeling of just how big it is and how much water is flowing over it, those are people standing just to the right of it at the brink of the falls. Pretty impressive and quite unnerving while standing there. LYLE

Big Springs

This 5 shot HDR of the springs at Big Springs, ID was hand held. We hiked around the springs and then the next day we kayaked about 4 miles down the river. Henry's Fork is initially fed by these springs, there are hundreds of them all in the same area pouring water into the river. The water is so clear that you can see all the fish and plants in the river. LYLE

Trees at Artist Paint Pot

This stand of dead trees at at the entry to Artist Paint Pot in Yellowstone National Park. It is a 5 shot HDR. LYLE

Below Old Faithful

Judi and I went to Island Park in Idaho last week. While there we went into Yellowstone. This is a geyser just below Old Faithful. I took it just at sunset. I was zoomed in at 240 mm and set the ISO at 200 and shutter at 1/60 sec. Somebody told me the name of the geyser but I don't remember it now. LYLE

Stars over Silver Lake

This is a 30 sec exposure at ISO 3200, f/4 with the 16-35 wide angle lens. I got rid of a couple of ugly signs and added a slight vignette. This is looking mostly south at Silver Lake and was taken just after the other photo that I just posted. I also used a pen light to light up the bridge. LYLE

Big Dipper at Silver Lake

I went up to Silver Lake Saturday night to shoot the night sky. I shot this looking North
West, you can see the big dipper. I shot it at ISO 3200 in Manual and bulb for 84 sec at f/4. I used a 20 million candle power flashlight. I blew out part of the grasses but recovered most of it in Photoshop. It was almost 11:00 PM when I took it. LYLE

White Pelican

We took a stroll out at Farmington Bay this evening. There were a bunch of white pelicans all over the place. They generally tried to stay away from the few people that were there. This one was floating along the opposite shore. I kept my lens low to eliminate the mountains and cityscape in the background. I shot it at 1/50 sec, manual mode, f/40, ISO 3200 at 300 mm. I also have not had it in Photoshop other than to convert it to JPG. LYLE

White Bouquet

This "bouquet" was in the flower garden in front of where I work. I had my camera at work so I stayed just a bit to get a few shots of the flowers. I am not very good at it so this is as good as it gets. ISO 200, f/4, 1/2500 sec, 85 mm with a 24-120 lens. I went to manual mode so I could control both the shutter and aperture, I wanted the shallowest depth of field that I could get and have the shutter very fast to stop the movement of the wind on the flowers and to underexpose to get the detail of the white flowers in full sunlight. Stanley Hotel Mantle

You liked the other Mantle so I dicided to show this one as well. I Photoshopped it as well, I added a deep blue filter and Black & White at 74%  Iso 1000 f20 1.6sec  Bruce

Stanley Hotel Piano

I was experimenting: with this photo and noticed the legs have wheels under them. I didn't see the wheels when I took the photo cropped this detail out just to show you, I didn't like the full picture so I won't post it. Bruce

Swimming Tree

This tree stands in the waters of Jordanelle Res above Salt Lake. Judi and I were kayaking when I asked if we could go back and capture a shot of it. I was using my Cannon D10 on full auto. I thought the tree looked a bit like it was trying to adjust it's swim mask before going in. LYLE

The Cliff

I started with this today I worked on it along time and decided to try B&W and liked it. This is in the narrows a 3 exposure HDR   ISO 250,  f22  Bruce

The Narrows

This is one of the shots I made when we stopped by ourselves. It has taken me along time to get in the mood to work on these shots. This is a 3 exposure HDR, 18-70 lens at 18mm I had the camera in auto (I was in a hurry and nervous on the side of the road) ISO 250, f22.  Bruce

Gold ?

I had no choice after Steve found the pebble of gold I had to top him so I found a boulder with a vein of gold in it. This is a 2 shot HDR I had to work hard on it to get the colors as I remembered. Bruce

The Trestle

This trestle is on the Hiawatha Trail outside of Wallace, MT. As I mentioned in an earlier post we bicycled the 17 mile trail and had a great time. Did hurt my nates a bit (look that one up in your Funk and Waggonalls). I shot it at 1/160 sec, 35 mm, ISO 200 while leaning out over the cable rail and stretching out to get the angle I wanted, then in Photomatix I tonemapped it as a single shot. LYLE

A Sad Sight

Yes, a sad sight! For those that don't know this is all that was left of a small hydro-electric powerplant that was washed away in the flood of 1976 on the Big Thompson River. There was a park here, our family had a lot of picnics here and a lot of fun The park has been rebuilt but it isn't the same.  f20  1/100 sec  ISO 1000  AP   Bruce

The Big Thompson River

I have finally sat down and worked 0n my Colorado photos. I did a 5 exposure HDR but I didn't like the trees. I like This shot about as well as any I shot up there. I was editing a person out and saw a face in the boulder l'm calling it the Ghost of The Big Thompson. It is located in the photo on the left side follow the edge of the tree from the top to the edge of the river.  Bruce

Tunnel of Golden Light

This was shot on the Hiawatha Trail in Montana while we were visiting Damon and Jessica. We actually rode the trail on bikes, lots of fun but hard on the rear. This is part of our family on bikes. LYLE

Red Pigeon

Here is another shot of that pigeon in the Columbine Gallery. I messed with it a bit in Photoshop to get the highlights toned down just a bit but for that I didn't do anything to it. (I did take out some bright spots in the background though). I don't remember what flashlight I used but it worked well. I shot it at 8 sec, ISO 800, f/18, 50mm. LYLE

Above Silver Lake

Judi, Monica and I went for a hike around Silver Lake in Big Cottonwood Canyon. While there I only shot three photos, this is one of them. You will remember that we went there while you were here for the reunion. LYLE

Blue Pigeon

This is a bronze sculpture of a pigeon. I shot it well after dark in a wonderful sculpture garden called Columbine Sculpture Garden in Loveland, CO. We were allowed to come back after hours and shoot some of the works. It was great. This one was lit by a LED flashlight while I shot the thing. Steve and Bruce were with me and shooting and helping. Feather

This ducks feather caught my attention so I shot it. I had to spend a lot of time on it in Photoshop the water had a lot of glare on it in. I had to use a B&W_ layer at 80% to get rid of the glare. I noticed a little monster next to the feather so I cut it out and pasted it at full color. I had a lot of fun with this one.  F9 1/25  ISO1000 Macro   Bruce

Little Friend

While shooting the ducks things got a little squirrelly! I just happened to turnaround to move and this squirrel was watching me so I put my lens in Macro and made a few exposures of him. He sure wasn't afraid of me, once he was through posing for me he got drink of water. Both exposures Manual f9 1/25  ISO1000  135MM Macro  BRUCE

North Shore Sunset-Left

In lieu of going to Hawaii to shoot this I went to my library and pulled this one out. It was the 0 step of a five shot HDR but I didn't like the way the tonemapping changed the way it looked. I did mess with it a bit to get it to look like I remembered it. I am hanging a beautiful wave panorama (12x36) on the wall with this one and another one like it (8x12) but opposite hand on either side. They will be above our bed. LYLE

Dogs View

I had to see if I could see what a dog sees in this, stopped short of sniffing and raising my leg on it. I didn' want to cause a disturbance. F18 2sec ISO 250 35mm  Bruce

Okinos River Bridge

I went to Michigan last week to help Leigh move there this beautiful bridge is about a mile from her place. I knew when I saw it I had to photograph it. I crosses the Okinos River just North of Lansing Michigan in the town of Okinos. Bruce  70mm f6.3  1/8sec ISO 1250

Red '66 Mustang
