Snow Balls

I was out at lunch but didn't have my camera with me so I grabbed the point and shoot I keep in my drawer for company use. The office I work in is in the background of this scene.  LYLE

Cathedral of the Madeleine

This is an interior 5 shot HDR of the Catholic Church's Cathedral here in SLC. It is very difficult to photograph due to the dark colors and low lighting level. Even using HDR it is hard to get it right.  LYLE

Ice Fishing at Rockport

I wanted something to describe what we do here in Utah that you would not do in Texas so here it is: Ice Fishing. It was 17d f. They were a wonderful group of people and even demonstrated how to drill a hole in the ice. They had about a dozen 12-14" trout. I don't want to put those here but will e-mail them if you want to see them. I also told them to look here for pictures. If Mandy will e-mail me at shenemanboys@gmail.com I will send them to her also.  LYLE

View from Duck Pond Lane

This is the view I get from the end of Duck Pond Ln as I leave my home. It is why I enjoy living in UT. A 5 image HDR, aperture priority f9, ISO 400, 112mm with the 70-300 lens. I made no adjustments other than to tonemap following the HDR merge. Mount Olympus is on the left, it is a twin peak mountain. It was 5pm just as the sun set on Dec 23. Merry Christmas.  LYLE

Cold Duck

I have not ventured into the realm of wildlife photography so I thought I might give it a try. This is on the Jordan River Trail not far from our home. I had to wait for a long time standing in the snow with only sandals and no socks for the duck to get where I wanted it but it seemed worth it. Had to set the 70-300 lens on manual to get it to focus where I wanted it to.  LYLE

SLC Temple on a snowy morning

I just couldn't help myself this morning as I was coming in to work. Like the next one the sky is a little boring but the rest of it overcomes it. A 5 shot HDR, I did bump up the colors just a bit.  LYLE

The Lights of Temple Square

This is just a small sampling of the more than one million lights that adorn Temple Square each year. They start putting them up in September, it takes about 2 months to get it all done. They are turned on just after Thanksgiving. It is truely a sight to behold. This is a 7 shot HDR. A wonderful little boy stood right in front of my camera as I was shooting, he really thought he was in the picture.  LYLE

The Federal Eagle

I noticed that these great eagles stand at the front of the Federal Courthouse as I was on the train going home just yesterday.  I have passed the courthouse every day for the last 8 years but only just noticed them then.  This photography thing has sure made me more aware of my surroundings.  LYLE

Christmas Ornaments

There are several Christmas trees in the lobby of the building where I work.  True to the way I like to take pictures I set the D200 on the tripod and shot 5 images.  These are EV 1/3, 24 mm with the 10-24 wide angle, f/8, ISO 1600 shots tonemapped with Photomatix but otherwise unadjusted.  I actually shot 120 photographs before I was through, I only kept 2 final tonemapped images.  LYLE

Nativity on Temple Square

For the past two years the Church has put a nativity set in the center of the reflecting pool in front of the temple. Last year Ann and I set a ladder with a tripod taped to it next to the pool. While I climbed the ladder to set up my D40 Ann scurried around to the other side of the pool to shine a 10 million candle power flashlight on it. We had to hurry to avoid security. Now the Church puts huge flood lights on it so this shot is no longer available. They have also added floating lights in the water.  LYLE

Reflections of a Crane

There is a whole bunch of building (2.5 billion +-) going on in downtown SLC right now. This office building sits across the street from where I work. It is pink, yes that is not a typo, PINK! The crane is reflected in its glass facade at sunset. ISO 400, 1/40 sec, f/18, -1 step, 52 mm with the 18-135 lens.  LYLE

McCune Mansion

This bulding sits a block north of the office building, it was a residence but is now a reception center. I tried to get there before the light faded but was about 15 seconds (literally) late. As I hurried trying to get the tripod set up everything faded. Oh well, the 5 shot HDR still came out nice. I will try again and get it better. I used the 70-300 @ 70 mm, ISO 720, 1/30 sec, f/18.  LYLE
